Artist Statement

I’m a visual artist working in a number of mediums – Painting, drawing, print making and photography. I also work as an artist in the community and have created many projects in conjunction with children, adults and senior citizens. I have worked as an art teacher in the prison system and worked as a fine art lecturer and art tutor. With my own artwork I like to work in series and there is usually a narrative underpinning the artwork. I have created a number of exhibitions which involved extensive historical and social history research. Recently I won a number of commissions including % for art. My artwork is always evolving. I have added to my skills base over the years which I feel gives me a flexibility in terms of mediums when responding to my subject matter. Much of my art deals with the ‘ordinary’ and in making it visible through the art making process. I collect fragments of peoples’ lives – the fragments chosen for their particular resonance or meaning – acting like plumb lines in the story.
