Galway born artist Ruth O’Donnell studied at NUI Galway and at the Institut Saint Luc, Brussels.
She has been an active member of a major Dublin studio since 1991 exhibiting consistently in Ireland and internationally and has recently been awarded a residency in the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris in 2014.
Her still life imagery contains references to art history, literary sources and museum pieces as well as to personal experience. The colour in her prints is built up in successive layers of ink using multiple plates, giving them a richly tactile quality.
“I make still life prints, drawing on art history, literary sources and museum pieces as well as personal experience, to explore pattern and form.
I am currently researching fragile objects in museums in Paris, and hope to make an extended series of prints, based on my watercolours, over the coming year”.
